About this Property
Explore the Confederation Chamber, a stunning replica of the Province House site where Canada was born. While Province House National Historic Site is closed for conservation work, visitors can learn about the story of Confederation in the Centre’s Upper Foyer. The space has been transformed into a stunning replica of the historic chamber where the Fathers of Confederation met during the 1864 Charlottetown Conference.
The exhibition includes a short film from Parks Canada – A Building of Destiny – which transports viewers back in time to September 1864, when the discussions that took place at Province House would change the face of North America. The film also showcases related themes, including the Indigenous context at the time of Confederation and the role of women in Victorian society. Accompanying the film is a video explaining the role of Confederation Centre of the Arts as Canada’s national living memorial to the Fathers of Confederation.
The Confederation Chamber Replica includes guided interpretation of the exhibition, informative panels, and original artifacts from Province House.
